Witness the resurrected JBL L100, recent old-style models from KLH, the Andy Jones/Mo-Fi coaxials, new retro models from Wharfedale, Mission UK, etc. And of course Klipsch, Tannoy, and a few others have never stopped making them.
Those who love them seem to prefer their "richer, warmer, fuller-bodied" sound over the more precise (and sometimes rather sterile) presentation of skinny audiophile towers and dinky stand-mounts. Especially with tube amplification.
This is cool. What's old is new again. Different folks have different preferences. There's room in this hobby for all of us.
