It has been standard practice in the trade to hold accommodation pieces for *at least* one year. Many cables in question (and I personally know some reviewers who have had dozens of cables sitting because they did not want to sell them without express permission from the manufacturer) have been held well past that date, many times for *years*. It was both out of respect and a high ethical standard that these cables were NOT sold, even though the reviewers were told to "keep 'em".Another valid reason (not mentioned earlier) for these gifts is that many of the cable models have been superceded, and are no longer current product. The manufacturer has no use for them anymore. That cuts both ways, especially when a reviewer wishes to have something S.O.T.A. in his system, elevating the performance level. Many new cable companies enjoy sending new samples to reviewers on a long-term basis as well....and the cycle continues.
