Re: So if the M-80 betters Marantz, can Yamaha B-2x better Krell?

Marantz, too, is 'mass production.'
Yamaha makes very fine gear. I notice in my owners manual for the M-80 that THD is 0.002% and IMD is 0.003%.
Anything below 0.7% THD has been proved to be inaudible (from the very early 70s, so no, don't expect me to cite the source, but I saw that stated in many places).
I have, and have had, a few other comparable amps. It is just not necessary to spend buckets of cash on amplification. You only need to impress yourself, and cater to your own ears.
I just don't see "better" once you get into the overall capabilities of an M-80 type amplifier. I cannot hear what is NOT there, and I cannot be impressed by the name on a label.
Things get so far into the purely subjective, but an amplifier has a fairly simple task. What matters most, to me, is an amp's ability to properly drive the speaker systems connected.
Would I like to have a Marantz 500/510/510M? Sure. But not to replace anything, but to add. Hey, I like lots of amps. One per speaker pair at most.
