Looking at the specs, Kara has less distortion and noise, but they are both so good I'm sure you wouldn't hear any difference. What would matter more is which one would be a better fit for your planned use. Do you need surround? Or extra inputs?
I have a Kara and as a preamp it is very nice. It has the stepped relay volume control vs the pot used in the Syn. Very flexible with gain, from passive, to 1X buffered to 4x buffered. I replaced it with a Topping Pre90 only due to the Pre90 having a DC offset level that in my case was 80 times lower (both preamps measured within specs according to the manufacturers). My power amp (Hypex Nilai) will amplify any DC at it's input so I want to keep that DC level as low as possible.
