RE: Wiggling the tubes

Hm. This is sounding like something associated with that socket. Both capacitors and resistors can make odd sounds when disturbed if they are prone to noise problems, which is rare.

I'm going with a resistor on this one, due to the fact that after a while it goes away. A film cap would not do that.

This is not a power transformer or filter capacitor problem.
