Re: GFP 565 ADCOM preamp, any good?

12.86.0.151

I think the Adcom pre-amps are all pretty doggoned real values for the money. I'm running a 565 now and think it is pretty cool.

But, I am not a purist. I believe in tone controls, they really come in quite handy now and then. And I REALLY believe in "mode" control. I don't much expect the total mode control I had in my Citation, but I will NEVER own a pre-amp that can't go into mono. Not much used, but CRITICAL when system trouble-shooting or when you uave a pesky mono recording somehow "translated" into stereo.

But, back to the point. Those ADCOM pre-amps are bargains for the bucks you're spending and, if, like me, you value things like balance and tone controls, almost in a class by themselves. These new minimalist pre-amps are horseshit in my opinion. If you are into that then just get a freakin' attenuator between your amp and your
CD player and a switch box if you even have a tuner. Bullshit. A great pre-amp can do more and, for as long as I can find 'em, I'll NEVER have a pre-amp without some sort of tone control and some sort of way to "mode things out". A volume knob and selector switch? Okay, I see the point but I'll never own one - NEVER!

The ADCOMS were (are) great units. Keep it. Or, if you really want to get rid of it, I've been trying to find one for my brother. Get in touch with me.
