I haven't had time to look into the latest options for external linear PS. Please share what you find out, in case I can further fatten my hopeless "wish list".

Gotta make up your mind, kid :) If top music SQ is important, a dedicated music box is the way to go.

I'd keep the one you already have as the jack-of-all-trades, including HTPC duty. Then, build the music-only PC and place it close to the power amps (so the DAC is also). JRiver allows you more than one PC with the same license. Consider using only part-time [wired] network access. It is good to leave the couch to hook up the cables temporarily every now and then.
