Thanks - you were right: I neglected to remove the jumpers. But then the measurement of the lower section is now ...basically no resistance at all (almost 0 ohms)... same result when measuring across the capacitor of the lower section... so from what you say I suspect it must have gone bad.

I am puzzled: I had a pair fully functional Maggies a couple of months ago, and I am left with two speakers almost out of order after they spent one month in a container (although mostly in tropical climates)
