THAT indicates to me that his source/DAC/computer hardware is NOT having a problem driving the amp.Further, he commented that he tried the suggestion and "it worked." Is it possible that the simplest solution actually worked and there isn't any more to it than that?? :)
We do seem to have some terrific audio detectives here. My goodness.
