RE: Tympani 1-D???

I am the owner of some T 1-D's, and have been since 1992 or 3, if my memory serves me well. All the panels have been factory rebuilt using both Miloxane and the current glue, 3M 3NF which is much preferred. I did not know at that time how to fix delaminations plus they were all original as I got them from the original owner, with the original receipt..built in 1972, and were in need of repair.
Now I just use the two mid/bass panels on each side of my IIIa Frankenpans with active crossover, etc. They work very well as a bass panel for that frequency range. I drive them with a Crest cc5500 which delivers approximately 1800 watts at 4 ohms, and they don't whimper at that amount of power and respond to it well. Unfortunately as soon as I set them up in my new apartment, I found that one of the panels was out. I diagnosed it as best as I could, but being I am in a new retirement complex, and I have no place to repair them, I decided to send the one panel to Magnepan for repair. My listening area is much better than it was but with one panel gone I had to take them out of the picture for now, so I cannot report on the response in my new listening area.
I wanted to chime in and say that the 1-D's have served me well over the years, and were my first introduction to Maggies. I still recall the feeling of amazement at their presence when I first heard them. They really seem to shine when one uses a better tweeter, and just use the bass panels for that frequency. I found this to be the best use of them. I posted on here for suggestions on whether or not the tweeter could be incorporated into the mix, but the consensus was to use the ribbon of the IIIa and forget about using the T 1-D tweeter. I think that was good advice.
Good luck with an awesome purchase. They are so easy to fix and will last forever if one uses the new 3M 3NF glue. I have re glued the Miloxane panels when they came loose, and do not expect to have to do it again. I look forward to hearing what you do with them as you have experience with building Frankenpans.
