This may seem out of left field, but have you considered vintage Acoustats? The Model 3 may be just what the doctor ordered. The Acoustat panels are as close to indestructible as there is. If you went with the Medallion x-former interface, rather than the tubed servos, there would be next to zero maintenance. All of the sonic attributes you are "addicted" to are abundantly available with the Acoustats, and I'm not sure you could find more bang for the buck in that department than the Acoustats. If you have just a little more room, you might also want to consider the Model 4's.
