You could cut a hole in the bottom of the box, just big enough to accommodate an extra deep cavity for the cap. Small square of 18" plywood with wood spacer pieces, all glued together to make it. Just don't go to the edge corner of the box. Then you can add some feet to the bottom, that will raise the entire existing box higher than the added cavity. Done right, it wouldn’t be seen from above. Something MacGyver would do :^).
