Russ: I have owned both for several years. They are close in sound but there is a noticeable difference. The 3.5s are a little warmer and forgiving and a little less transparent than the 3.6s. I also think the 3.6s are a touch more immediate - you don't have to play them quite so loud. I can't say I noticed a difference in bass but I've then I've used giant subs you see here with both.
Some may actually like the 3.5s better but they are not quite as neutral. I think you could be very happy with either model and for many trading up might not be worth it. Find the first Absolute Sound review of the 3.6s when they came out as there's a comparison of the two. The reviewer nailed this question precisely.
Oh, the 3.6s are a bitch to bi-amp and require lots of tinkering where as the 3.5s are almost a set and forget affair.
