Been a long time owner and tweaker of big box JBL speakers - I've had 3 ways and 4 way monitors and was pretty happy with them - but I saw an ad in the DC CL for a pair of reasonably priced MG IIb speakers fromn the original owner - and they intrigued me. Grabbed some test CDs (AJA, Knopfler's Shangri-La, Acoustic Alchemy's Positive Thinking, Van Morrison's No Guru ...) and headed on over.
Spent about an hour listening to my CDs and his (Tommy, Neil Young's Freedom, a few others) ... and while it didn't nail me with high freqs, it was an enlightening experience. The price was reasonable, they were very clean condition, so I paid my money and took my chances (grin) ... and brought them home.
I need to make some room for them - our living room doesn't actually have a wall to "bounce" them off of - they are free standing in the middle of the room right now, but I generally like the sound.

The previous owner hadn't had them refurbed or anything, I think he had them stored for a few years - so I'm guessing the tweeters might need refreshing - and the crossover cap could probably do with an updating ...

So far, all I've done is clean the jumpers and banana jacks with Deoxit - but they do sound nice.

I'm in that experimental period where I run through my CDs listening for nuances and things I hadn't noticed before - they're pretty cool!
