I would certainly agree with you about Bryston - well, the one my mate had, anyway (he then bought the same amp that I have have and we compared them).

I have amps designed by someone which I know you certainly wouldn't have heard of ... a) because they're made in Oz and b) because they started off being kit amps - ie. they're not sold by retail dealers. Also, they're not big enough to drive Maggies unless you go active (200w into 4 ohms is currently the biggest, so you have to use 2 or 3 of them - I use 3 on my IIIas).

The guy that designs them loves tubes so, initially, he deliberately engineered in some H2 distortion ... which gives his AKSA amps some "warmth". His current models (which I have just upgraded to) do not have this "deliberate" tubey sound but are altogether better ... much more resolution. No harshness here ... and certainly no tonal "unnaturalness"! :-))
