I am not certain of this (because I've never played with a so-called "digital" amp) but I would think:
a) your DCX 2496 digital XO is built to receive an analogue signal (from a preamp) and output an analogue signal (to a power amp).
So it has an ADC on the input and a DAC on the output. In the middle (of the DCX), it does its frequency splitting in the digital domain.
b) likewise, your "digital" amps are built to accept an analogue signal (from a preamp). They also output an analogue signal (to a louspeaker).
If they convert an analogue signal to digital "inside" the amp (and then back to analogue for the output) then you have multiple analogue-to-digital-to-analogue conversions happening in your system.
However, if you can take a DIGITAL output stream from your XO and feed it directly into a "digital input" on your amps, THEN you've saved a dual conversion ... and this should sound better.
