When you got a guy, who offers "Come listen and make up your own mind".
"Here's where you can go and verify what I am saying before you buy"
And not one person has said: "Urgh, mine sound worse!"
and then FREELY gives away his methods, and then says "Hey try it yourself and call me if you need help doing it without me"
you do NOT have a con artist. This is a generalization but I don't know capacitors, third order filters, etc to contribute here.
Probably Peter, and for certain Grant (I know!) have found ways to improve an already wonderful product. Period.
White Bear Minn should buy both companies and offer upgrades to their buyers. The economies of scale would allow Grant and Peter to sell cheaper, and get rid of their home factories.
