These are similar in principal to ordinary speakers - they have traditional voice coils driving a large rectangular "cone" - also similar to NXT's coil-driven vibrating flat membrane.
I'd be very surprised if these had anything like a flat frequency response. Also, since they are very large radiators, I would assume that vertical and horizontal dispersion would be VERY NARROW....
So, since these are based on the same principles as NXT speakers, I would guess they will attain a similar success. When's the last time anyone on this forum bought an NXT planar speaker? When the last time anyone here even HEARD an NXT system? I have, come to think of it. They didn't sound very good.
Needless to say, despite the effusive if badly translated article at 6moons, I remain quite skeptical.
These things are apparently distributed by a company in the NYC area. Any Planar Asylum members there interested in going to hear them? I'd love to hear reports from someone familiar with Magneplanar or ESL loudspeaker performance.
