There is no point keeping a 2ch preamp in the chain

Since a HT pre/pro is basically a multi-channel DAC. Feeding that straight to the amp is like feeding a CD player or DAC.

I would look at a pre/pro by Meridian. Most of the high end brands gets off the shelf decoder, off the shelf DAC and go nuts on the analog stage, where the only thing it could do is not make the off the shelf sounding signal any worse.

Meridian on the other hand, is one of the few digital processing powerhouse that does alot of R&D on psychoacoustics and applies that to decoding signal that sounds the most real. Their Trifield Algorithm makes a 2 channel source sound absolutely amazing in a 3 frontal channel setup. Reviewers goes nuts over minute low level difference in sound or slight variation in upper freq air, but Trifield makes 100x bigger difference for the better.
