Re: Quad 63 US monitor / Atma-sphere M60 question

Hi,

I have late model USA monitors in the 31XXX range. It sounds like you have a problem with your set up or perhaps the speakers. I was able to reach 90+ db peaks with a atmasphere M60 in my 14x24 foot room. Now, sound pressure levels are function of speaker sensitivity and the whole amplification and source chain ...including the room. Have you changed sources?

Crackling sounds are not uncommon.. could mean your dustcovers have separated and dust is in the panels (Very common) or delamination of the actual stator itself is begining or nothing! Try to borrow another amp and try or for sport pull the socks off your speakers and examine the dustcovers and panels(I hope you did this before you bought them!)

Want a real laugh? I'm driving my panels now with an 18watt per channel SET....18wpc! I approach 90db peaks.. plenty loud for me!
Now its no ordinary SET it weighs in at over 100lbs (46Kg)and is a monster.. It's the best I've had in my system...so 60wpc is plenty and the Atma's can do it if your room is not cavernous. Remember you're dealing with ESLs here...not that in your face jump factor your horns can give you...Kentaja gives good experienced advice & there's lots of good information on the web about the 63's regarding repairs in the USA and the continent..Do some googling..they are worth the effort!

Good Luck AJ
