Noël Lee/Nonesuch H-71212. Nonesuch is an interesting label if you´re looking for classical beyond the usual warhorses. Not top level in recording and pressing IMHO but interesting in repertoire, whether it´s medieval/renaissance or 20th century music.

Open Your Ears....
Did not know until your query that there were 2 versions of this. I've looked into it a bit, and it's interesting that 2 were apparently released. The lp I've got is Impulse A-95 (mono), which lists part 1 (18:35) and part 2 (19:15) for sides A and B, respectively. But apparently what I have is the slightly shorter Edition I (take 1?). Was Edition II released first, in place of Edition I? One of my sources tells me this is so, b/c Coltrane could not decide which he liked better, but I'm not certain. Perhaps you know more specifics of all this?

I don't know if yours is a US pressing or not, but I compared an original US and an original UK, and the UK pressing has much more detail and rhythmic intensity. There is much more urgency to the UK. Songs that come off a bit bland on the US have a great deal of life on the UK. Very surprising at the difference.
It's the U.S. version. At least it's a better recording than "Brothers in Arms." "Making Movies" is well done, as is the self-styled first one.

Just picked up a real nice original copy. The best chance to hear the famous Hudson Bay Sound captured on vinyl. My friends and I used to do a half-hour jam on "I Can't Get No Nookie." It's that good.
having just driven my wife to the airport to fly to Chicago, so I'm playing some - ceedees, that is (are?):Loretta Lynn - Van Lear Rose (no description necessary)
Vulgar Boatmen - Wide Awake (just got this last night - it's alt-country/rock and roll from the last 15 years - fantastic!)Then, on to the LPs, which are most likely:
Billy Eckstine/Sarah Vaughan - Sing the Best of Irving Berlin (Mercury)
Charlie Christian - with the Benny Goodman Sextet and Orchestra (Columbia)
Lionel Hampton and his All-Stars - Air Mail Special (Verve)
Getz au Go Go (Verve)
The Immortal Jelly Roll Morton (Milestone)That's my plan, anyway - if my teenage stepson can stand the energy, of course.

Mastered by Doug SAx really great weight of drums and bass, overall sonics
pearls a singer, elke brooks....
Am a big fan of Ronstadt's and find that she and her producers (Doug Sax and particularly Peter Asher) have great respect for the medium. Her releases on Elektra/Asylum are sonic masterpieces.

Just this saturday I spotted this album in a 2nd hand vinyl shop here in Rotterdam. It was just a few guilders. I thought about buying the album, but was put off by the rather cheesy cover (I know, I know, not very rational). Is it worth another trip to the record store?
Thanks.
Best regards,
Robert
