In Reply to: If the tri pulley makes you feel better, then use it.... posted by John Elison on September 14, 2003 at 01:35:19:
John,
Are you saying then that the load balancing effect of the tri-pulley is no longer of benefit to the TT, as this was the reason that the tri pulley was added in the first place. If you say it's just a noise issue then surely better oil or tolerance on the machining of the tri pulleys, or both would reduce it greatly. What i need to find out is: Has anyone tried the tri-pulley with the new bearing and flywheel?Regards
Follow Ups:
If you want the best performance with respect to wow & flutter and noise, you will get rid of all those contraptions and use a single motor with single belt. Furthermore, the turntable platter is the only flywheel you need. The bearing load equalization from the tri pulley is nonsense for a bearing of this design and construction. In other words, it is not necessary and doesn't have any practical advantage, whatsoever. However, if you like the looks of the thing and want to put up with increased wow & flutter and increased noise, then go for it.
