I have a small SET amp that currently is using 6SJ7 Sovtek tubes in V1 & V2. The tubes sound fine, no complaints. However, the tubes are covered with a metal shell - so we get no warm ambiance from the glow of the tubes.
Can the 6SJ7 Sovtek be replaced with an equivalent tube that is not shielded in metal, one that will glow in the dark?
I know this is a dumb idea, but I had to ask the question.

Yes
Replacing the metal one with a glass one in that application should be just fine.
I had much the same question as it was missing the glow. I acquired the GE 6SJ7GT version and it looks ok. It is a glass bottle with a lot of getter flash surrounding a very extensive internal shield. The filament is firmly buried in there and not much visible at all. But it is a shiny tube!
