Anyone here can tell if the tubes it uses can be substituted for more popular tubes like 12au7 or 12ax7 etc, which I have lots of.
I like the features of the preamp, and inclined to try one, but I know nothing about those tubes except that they are supposed to built for long life. The tubes are CV6189, 6S3P-EV,and a 85A2.
Any comments welcome.

You can't use 12xxx tubes in this pre.Personally I like the fact that tubes in this device are not common, lots of relatively inexpensive rolling variants, also the tone controls are perfect.
If you're going to try it, get the version with the 6J51P/EF184 tubes instead of CV6189/E180F in the input stage.

You are out of luck if you want to plug in your 12a** twin triodes for the tubes you call out.
The CV6189 is a single pentode that will probably have substitutes like the E180F, 6J9P, and 6688, which share the same B9A base. But unless you know your way around your circuit stay with the OEM tube numbers. The 6189 tube designation without the leading "CV" is a twin-triode but that is not the tube you have and do not substitute a 6189 for an CV6189.
The 6S3P-EV is a single triode, RSH8 base, and it may also have substitutions that work but you would have to contact the manufacturer to make sure.
The 85A2 is an 85V reference tube so it is unlike the signal tubes you have collected and it must be replaced with something similar.
All these tubes are readily available so do not substitute the tubes you have anywhere.

Thx for correcting me. Yes, the "CV" designation puts it in a different category.
I believe the CV6189 is a 12AU7 equivalent. The other two tube types are less common and certainly not 12AX7 or 12AU7 equivalents. Best seek out tubes of that stated designation.
