Anyone heard of this brand? I'm looking at a 6X4 on eBay and it sure looks like a Philips tube but would it be Philips lower quality stock that they sold off? How did that work back then?
Follow Ups:
Just a side note, the 6X4 has a common failure mode where the cathode shorts to the heater. This isn't noted in any of the data sheets I've seen, but it's become a well-known phenomenon over the years. Somehow, Akai must have known about this in the early days, because the power supplies in the old Terecorders and M8s use a separate, floating winding for the 6X4 filament. That's the only way to circumvent the risk. As far as I know, the 6X5 (functional equivalent of the 6X4, but in an octal) does not suffer from this.

The 6X5 was famous for shorting out and ruining radio power transformers. The only one of this type I trust is the 6CA4.
That's good to know. I only use the 6X4 when a separate filament winding is available. I'll treat the 6X5 the same way in any future builds. :)

Hi Joe,
Please contact me if you're having difficulty finding 6X4, or ones that fit the price you care to pay. I have many, including new in the box.

Seems to have been a Philips-affiliate brand in Indonesia. So it should have etch codes. Can you see them?
