Never came across an intermittent microphonic output tube. But sorry to hear, and hope it's not the WE 300B causing it. I also have a pair of WE300B's in my amps, one of which have a loose base but, knock on wood, still works fine.
Regarding reasonably priced new 300B's, you can also look into JJ - still have a pair that is strong after many years and sounds great. The JJ 300B's have a nice heft to the tube with the thick glass and ceramic base.
I have no heard the EH Gold's, but besides the WE's, I have various Chinese ones (Shuguang Treasure, Sophia globes, etc.), the JJ, and the Genalex.
Personally I would go with either the JJ or Genalex. Good luck.
Follow Ups:
It is very simple to fix loose base. Have done it many times.
Read the second section of this post here:
Thanks, have tried previously with crazy glue and didn't do a good job and left some residue at the interface - it appears that only the top lip of the base comes into contact with the glass. Perhaps I can try again with the method described, but since the tube is working fine as is I don't want to touch it.
Using glue is very messy and ugly. The method I used is clean, just simply wiped off the excess of nail polish remover along the gap. One thing though, before baking them, just give perhaps a minute for the remover to work its magic in softening the cement. When all is done, you cant even tell.
I had them in my Cardinals for years. Built well, sound OK, good bass.
I never cared for EHs. People seem to rave about the Genelex 300Bs, but I haven't heard them.
