I have a Realistic 7025A tube with no other visible codes on the sides. It does have a reverse R and a 1 molded in the glass in between the pins. Any ideas as to the manufacturer?
Just curious as I know Radio Shack sourced from EVERYBODY!

That's a RFT ECC83. They're not very clear sounding, and they break up early and roll off treble in a way that some guitarists enjoy if they're using lots of overdrive. I wouldn't recommend them for home audio systems, for my taste, but then again... tastes vary.
Interesting that during the time this tube was available the iron curtain was still up yet Radio Shack bought East German tubes? Seems like it would be a difficult connection.
Sounds like a great story.

Tubes from behind the "iron curtain" were common in the west in that time period, some with the big brand names on them. A lot of Russian tubes were marked with "England" or "Germany" as COO. I remember seeing my first Russian 6P3 in this timeframe at a RadioShack. It was labeled 6L6GC and "made in Germany". As we now know, a 6P3 is far from the GC version as far as max ratings go. More more like a 6L6GB. They looked strange too with a narrower glass envelope on a fat Bakelite like base.
Yes, tube companies seemed to find it very easy to skirt trade restrictions during the Cold War. Not very ethical, in my opinion, but I will grant that the tube sellers were clever and effective. This is one of the reasons that "England" on a tube is an initial red flag to me, meriting a closer look. If it isn't a Brimar, and it says "England" - it is likely it originated in the Eastern Bloc.
... if you can. The more angles, and the closer and more clear, the better. I'd hope to see the internal structure details.
What makes you think it would be German? There are only a few candidates there: Valvo (Philips), Siemens, Telefunken, Lorenz and RFT (East German).
I will try to post a pic. It says Germany on the side of the tube.
