Mercman,
"At this point, I am getting terrific results with an Audioquest Diamond. But the endless sampling of USB cables for me is over, just as I don't keep trying different brands of interconnect cables. But I do enjoy reading other folks' adventures."
I am happy for your ability to not concern youself with bettering your system, cables specifically at this point in your audio life.
Unfortunately, some of us are requested/firmly to design new and or improve propriatery existing designs.
Please don't take this the wrong way because it pertains just as much to me and most who are audioaholics enough to be involved in such forums as this one.
I do not beleive that you will not be plugging in new interconnects and USB cables soon enough. I have seen your posts over the years, you ARE an AUDIO AHOLIC. (All in good fun Steve).
There is a new PATCH (solid silver)

Lance, just so you know and do not need to test, the QB-9 uses USB bus power to power the USB receiver section, so you cannot discontinue the bus power to the QB-9. This approach allows Ayre to maintain power supply isolation: USB receiver (but not the clocks) is powered by USB bus power, DAC and clocks is powered by the on board linear supply. And the I/V analog output stage is powered by the on board linear supply-I suspect from a separate transformer winding.
Similar setup with my Wavelength Crimson HS.
