Here is the story (see elsewhere for post). The output from the Musiland is out by way of frequency. Mine is 100 Hz (as a step which can mean 51 Hz)as reported by Big Ben and is constant. I have not attempted to measure the deviation as I have no calibrated meter. This can cause a lock issue, depending on the pll of the dac,.
My unit has not had any problems with lock on re level. In fact, I can turn the digital ouput level right down in the control panel of the software before lock is lost.

Fred,
That has to do with whatever oscillator or PLL the board is using as a reference.
But nothing to do with the computer. Though I do admit the dell is crap and in some instances we have not even been able to get them to preform with standard 16 bit stuff.
Thanks

Except for the dirty usb Vbus that Thorsten referred to as being part of the cause. Maybe the usb controller as well as some on PCs don't behave.
Fred,
SPDIF lock is all about the receiver locking into the PLL range of the input signal.
Really this has nothing to do with the computer. Heck you could lock with the computer not even attached the way you have it setup. The async nature of the board allows it to stream at any set frequency whenever it wants.
This has nothing to do with the computer, usb or anything else. As long as it can derive 3.3v from the VBUS signal this should work.
Thanks
Gordon

I said I agreed with you and yet you repeated the same thing. It was Thorsten who blamed his Dell'd dirty supply and output waveform for the lock problem and said he cured it by power supply bypassing and spdif output levelling
I said it was something else, the Musiland's deviation with synthesised sampling frtequency. Otherwise the waveform is clean, whatever dirty PC PS is connected (hence my mention of 5)
Heck, you must have bought one. Did you find any lock issues or output crud as Thorsten posted?
Have a good Xmas.
