A better organized and more user friendly version for the rookie & novice (like me!), however no Kernel Streaming in the Output Options..:( Kernel Streaming output gives the best sound quality(to my ears).....Been experiementing lately with many software and formats, each time I think I got a nice combo something better turns up ! Anyway, best combo in sonic criteria so far is EAC/Foobar/.Wav/Kernel Streaming....(For PC)..
Any comments ?
Thanks

I have downloaded the latest Foobar compatible ASIO Driver(s) and I get the following:-normal
-SSE
-SSE2which one should I use for Foobar 0.8.3...?
Thanks again:)
AP
The different versions are optimized for different types of CPUs. Normal should be safe for all of them. You need to use the one which matches with your CPU.I pulled this from another forum:
Normal non-XP 32-bit Athlons (Thunderbird core)
SSE PIII, Athlon (Palomino, Thoroughbred and Barton/Thorton cores)
SSE 2 Pentium 4 (Willamette and Northwood-core) Athlon 64
SSE 3 Newer P4 (Prescott-core (e.g. 3.0E, 2.4A))
Thanks Lynn. I actually tried all three but my built-in sound device is not supporting ASIO I think (no sound at all)..I'll wait till I get a proper one installed. Thanks for your help & your time Lynn..:)
Cheers
Did you know that Kernel Streaming offers many of the benefits of ASIO? There are components for Winamp and Foobar that support it. You might want to give it a try.
Not sure, I don't remember having a choice there. My Foobar shows "ASIO (dll version)" Try going with normal.
With my EMU 0404 the ASIO driver beats Kernel Streaming and DirectSound hands down. YMMV with different hardware.
Hi,Would you mind trying something with your 404? Try the Directsound 2.0 plugin for Foobar, and under DirectSound settings turn on Hardware mixing. Under output turn on 32bit floating point (you will have to check the 'show all options' box twice to see floating point. Make sure you have the latest driver from EMU.
Let me know how you think this compares to Kernel or ASIO. I am trying it now, and I think you may be surprised.
Lynn
P.S. Whenever you exit Foobar, it will loose the 32bit floating point setting, so if you like it, you will need to reset.
It seems my curent Motherboard built-in sound device is not supporting ASIO..when I choose ASIO in Foobar and go to Settings I see NO devices in the pull-down menu..:) I'll wait when I get a proper soundcard installed to try..Thanks!
thanks for the heads up, AP. Do you happen to know if the new version will keep all of my settings and plugins from my older version?
thanks again!
No. In fact, the setup programme will ask you to install the new version in a new directory or uninstall the previous version.Other plugins might now work. The SRC, for instance, surely won't.
By SRC, do you mean the Secret Rabbit upsampler? This it plugin I value the most.
Yes, unfortunately.I had GoBack installed on my PC so I just reverted the whole system back to a time before installing the new foobar. Guess I'll hold on to v.0.8.3 for a while.
Hi,The last time I checked, site for new release of Foobar said that plugins developed for the previous version will not work. So, back up your current version before upgrading!
If you try it, let us know if older plugins will work.
I don't really know that info, sorry. Im still new to all this and still trying to get a grip on Foobar in general..:( I did find some bits and pieces here & there online and I will persevere to the end..lol! Im a slug-head when it comes to anything Computing..:)Cheers
