Ivan I have found the Meanwell 24v ps to be a pretty decent unit. For me the soundstage opened up even further by removing the jumper and powering the pi board itself with my Allo smps and the Meanwell for the hat.
I have a ifi iPower X that is supposed to be here today. I will give it a go and see if it improved the sound any using it to power just the board instead of the Allo ps.

the 24V supply? Will try that at some point.

You would not want to run under voltage to the ultraRendu and not overvoltage to the PI2AES.
Might fry the latter.
with the supplied 24V SMPS to the PI2AES with the jumper (supplying 5V from PI2AES to Pi) pulled.
Ivan,
Did you find any difference using separate power supplies from the PI2AES and the board?
Just don't use the 24V setting!
The PI2AES is designed to operate on the 24V ps. With the jumper in place the PI2AES hat is regulated and will only supply 5V to the pi board. Remove the jumper and the 24V supplies power only to the hat, a separate 5V ps must then be used.
Yes, if the jumper is in place you can power the whole thing from the 24V.
I just swapped the Allo 5V powering my board only for the ifi iPower X. A very little difference, slightly smoother, less grain, a tiny bit blacker background. Shows how good the little Allo PS is for $11 compared to the $99 ifi, diminishing returns for sure.
