Abe, I mention you because 1) you clearly are very familiar with Roon and 2) you have gone out of your way to help people. Thanks!
I have whined in the Digital forum about the Bluesound software for my Node 2i. I don't need 80% of Roon's capabilities; I just want to play music on the Node without the Bluesound software hassles, have access to decent liner notes, a search function that actually works, etc. Roon seems overkill, but I am so annoyed with Bluesound that I am willing to consider it.
1. I have a new iMac in the room adjacent to the listening room. Do I simply install Roon on the iMac and use my iPad to control it and the Node? Is that it? There is no way I am buying another computer just to run Roon.
2. Someone (Abe?) mentioned reports that Roon did not work properly with the Node 2i despite the certification. This seems incredible, but based on my experience with Bluesound bugs, it is conceivable.
Thanks Abe (or anyone)!
Follow Ups:
8 months already not a single issue, the integration in my system ((enovo laptop as roon server) has been flawless and sound great next step is the raspberry just for trying.

Looks like JayD answered your questions about Roon. Roon aside, I hear that Audirvana can stream to the Node 2i but I haven't used Audirvana in years. I believe Ivan303 and few others use it.

It sounds like my existing iMac and iPad are what I need to run Roon, correct?
1. Is the Roon search function way better than Bluesound? Poor search capability is one of the things that drives me nuts about streaming. What good is 50 million songs if you can't find what you are looking for?
2. Will Roon allow you to sort your saved items/favorites as you like, in Qobuz e.g.? The Qobuz native app allows this, but Bluesound, stupidly, doesn't, despite years of complaints.
Reasonably recent iMacs and iPads should run Roon wonderfully. Do you have details on your iMac? Your iPad? I run the free Roon Remote app on my iPad to control my setup.
- Click the Apple logo in the upper-left of your iMac screen then choose About this Mac. This will show summary information for your iMac.
How many albums do you have or plan to have, either locally on the iMac or through Qobuz?
Roon search does a fine job for me whether searching my local library or Qobuz. I have no idea about Bluesound as I have never used it. I set up playlists using Roon which can include complete albums or tracks.
Abe, the iMac is a 2019 with 16GB and 1TB HD. The iPad is a 5th generation with 32GB. I have about 300 CDs, but none of them have been ripped.
More Roon questions:
1. Hopefully the search function will be an improvement over Qobuz and Tidal?
2. What about liner notes? Often the liner notes in Qobuz, etc. are either nonexistent or a joke. (Sometimes just date of recording.)
3. Track listing: this can be incredibly frustrating. Recently I played a classical disk on Qobuz with several selections and composers. Umbelievably, the track listing consisted of allegro, adagio, presto,
etc.!! No composer, no title, no nothing.
Thanks again for your help!
Your iMac and iPad are plenty sufficient! Very old iPads won't work because they didn't support OpenGL graphics.1. Hopefully the search function will be an improvement over Qobuz and Tidal?
It's not perfect but it works fine for me. Frankly I haven't played around much with search within Tidal or Qobuz.
2. What about liner notes? Often the liner notes in Qobuz, etc. are either nonexistent or a joke. (Sometimes just date of recording.)"
I think they're good. Several screen shots for you to view below.

I can't comment on classical as I'm more of a Rock, Pop, Blues, and Jazz listener.
Roon offers a standard 14-day trial and some manufacturers provide a 30 to 60 day trial coupon if you buy their product. And of course, you can subscribe to Roon monthly or yearly. Maybe try a monthly and if doesn't do what you want, cancel.
A few screen shots. There's much more if you dig deeper. You scroll through some of these, and you tap or click to get to others. There's also a wealth of technical information not shown here for setup, backups, audio zones (where to direct the audio), file types, dynamic range, DSP if you choose to use it, etc.

Thanks Abe!
You're welcome. There's much more, too much more to post here ;-)

I have the Bluesound Node 2i and use it with Roon without any problems.Because I can do Roon on the Bluesound it means I can stream quboz which you can't with the Bluesound software. But I do have the Roon core on a Linux based server (Innuos), but used to have it on a Mac mini. With Roon you can run the Roon bridge on any of your iOS devices as well to send music to other computers, iPhones or iPads.
Regards
Good to know Roon works ok with the Node. Thanks.
