As Abe said, that's the S1 not the Z1. I also only use my HAP-Z1 as a server feeding a Schiit Yggdrasil. Alas, the Yggy is only a first generation. *Sigh*
Having said that, the DAC in the HAP in PCM mode comes amazingly close to the Yggdrasil.

Follow Ups:
Mr_Steady. I have a HAP-Z1ES with the latest software upgrade and recently purchased a Schiit Yggdrasil. But I have been unable to make the USB connection between them work. I read that you have such a system. Any advise you can offer me to get these devices to talk to each other?
Thank you
HDR
Hi Hugo,
Try Settings > Audio Settings > USB output, auto. Remember to make sure DSD output is turned to off. Also in Audio Settings make sure DSD remastering is turned to off. It should work. If that doesn't work reread the manual carefully.
I will be offline until Monday. Hope this helps.

Thank you Jamie for your response. I tried it and did not work .. :(
The interesting thing is that the HAP works well connected to a DirecStream DAC (from PS Audio) (in all modes DoP, Native , etc). But not even using a Matrix-X SPDIF2 as a converter from USB to SPDIF, the Yggi is able to produce a sound.. And, by the way, the Yggi is amazing when fed straight from a CD transport. I appreciate your cooperation ...stay safe.

Your'e very welcome.
Are you trying to play DSD files on the Yggy?
What revision of the Yggy do you have? I have the original iteration with the original USB board. I want you to know I have always had a problem getting the HAP and the Yggy to shake hands. Ultimately I solved it by leaving the Yggy turned on 24/7. It is the only audio componet I have that I leave on continuously.
First let's just try a PCM file only. Make sure DoP is turned off. Just connect via USB. I suppose you can tell you are not getting the handshake because the white light on the sample rate indicator is not lighting up? You should also hear a mechanical click when the light comes on.
Try this, power up the HAP and then the Yggy. If the dac doesn't catch, turn the HAP off again, let it shut down, then turn it on again. The handshake has always taken place for me after that, and like I said, now I leave the Yggy on all the time, and I don't have that problem anymore.
Let me know how it goes.

Hello Jamie,
Thank you for your suggestions. I tried everything and the lights of the Yggy turned on ... but no sound. The Yggy I have is the Analog 2 version which apparently has a galvanized USB interface and perhaps other changes from your model. I decided to accept the situation and to use the Yggy with regular streams from a CD transport and feed the HAP's streams to my DirectStream DAC .... a bit of a pain but not so much. Each DAC has its own magic. I still think the HAP-Z1ES is an amazing device for the completeness of functions, sound quality, simplicity of use and its very affordable price. I guess my next project is to change the internal drive to SSD drive. That according to what have been posted is less problematic than the USB handshake with the Yggy. Again,... thanks for your support. Cheers... Hugo
