Amen to that - across four systems!
Follow Ups:
Music Room, Great Room, Den, Master Bath, Shop, Garage, Deck. -- Seven Raspberry Pies all singing in Unison !
I've been able to leverage the diversity found in the LMS player world each running a version of Squeezelite:
Sonore ultraRendu
Raspberry PI/Allo DigiOne
MacMini
iPad with iPeng app
I also have squeezelite running under LMS on1.) A Chromecast Stick that is always embedded in my TV, which also runs squeezelite, but has the album art video displayed on the TV.
2.) A Chromecast player that I got for $153.)And even the Google Home Mini that I was sent for free, it even attaches to LMS Too !!
4.) Plus the 4 or 5 Smartphones that I've got lying around the house can also be used as squeezelite players! - Both Android and Apple.
5.) And a Couple of Samsung Tablets

As you know, I'm running Roon and have all of my music on NAS. I stream to:- microRendu in my office
- Raspberry Pi+DigiOne in the basement
- Chromecast Audio in the garage
- AppleTV in the guest bedroom
- AppleTV in the master bedroom
- AppleTV in the family room
- iPad rarely as I use it mostly as a remote
- iPhone rarelyI have a couple Raspberry Pi that are idle at the moment. One has the Allo BOSS DAC HAT, the other is straight USB out but with the RPi I find that the DigiOne does a better job on the output.... for me anyway.
Music all in sync to all devices or different tunes to each.
This obviously needs Ethernet + Wifi, but not USB although I use that too from the microRendu to DAC. So it's not a "Ethernet vs USB" issue all.

I'm reaching the conclusion that USB to the Ayre DX-5 DSD and Ethernet to the Ayre QX-5 Twenty are essentially equivalent in sound quality, and that having both in a single setup is redundant. So I think I'll use USB in the media room and replace the microRendu and Ayre Codex with the QX-5 in the living room. The media room setup will be DX-5 DSD, KX-5 Twenty preamp, KV-5 Twenty amp, and KEF Reference 1s supplemented by Velodyne HGS-15s controlled by a SMS-1 bass manager. The living room setup will be QX-5 Twenty, C-5xeMP, A7e integrated amp, and KEF LS50s.
Given the iMac is just within the 16' recommendation for USB cable length of the Ayre DX-5 DSD, an alternative is an ultraRendu on the Ethernet that passes USB to the DX-5. Advice sought.
