I tend to agree with you on DACs. While I do hear differences among various DACs, the better ones sound more alike than different. I attribute much of this to the experienced designer paying particular attention to the analog output stage. Not that the DAC chip doesn't matter, but I think it matters less than most people think provided its a decent chip to begin with.
All the latest whiz-bang DAC chip of the month chat doesn't carry a lot of weight with me even though the marketing slicks and audiophile sheep try to convince you otherwise.

Agree that the analog section makes the most difference - so long as the DAC supports native playback of a given bitrate. :)
Not even sure that matters much, especially bit depth.
I really doubt my Audio-GD Master 7 actually gets to 24 bits.
Regards sample rate, it seems to go up to 192 without a hitch. Sounds good at 24/96 but I have no idea if its truncating bits, and pretty sure that's what I'm sending it, at least that what OS-X midi player says it's sending it.
Have the beginnings of a new system set up now. Ayre AX7e driving some ScanSpeak 'Revelator' MTM sealed boxes (mid-bass running full range with a 'Revelator' tweeter padded down and a series cap at who remembers the frequency)
Decent home brew speakers, easy load for the wimpy AX7e and sounding pretty good with the Chord Mojo and the Marantz Silver Disk spinner.
Going to try to set up the MONSTER Audio-GD Master 7 this weekend if I can find room in the cabinet.
The Ayre AX7e claims to prefer balanced input and Master 7 is a fully balanced design.
"Fully balanced discrete analog stages without any OPA or coupling caps in the signal channel. Non-feedback ACSS analog output stage."
We'll see.
Maybe Al's right and I need that $200 DAC he was raving about.

the manufacturer of the LiteDAC, yours is specified to sample as high as 192k.

One way to find out!
