I will chime in and agree with Abe that when all this is implemented, one can get a factory built and de-bugged Bluesound Node 2. I monkeyed around with a Pi one weekend and out of frustration (not a computer geek, no offense) mailed it to Batman.
For $500 US I would rather have the Bluesound out the box and up and running than spend a weekend pulling my hair out messing with a kit.
I do complement your posts and respect your knowledge.

That everyone here is not like you. It's OK to want Plug and Play, but probably most of us on this forum enjoy the DIY part of this hobby. I like building Amps, Speakers, etc. --- But I must say that Putting a Raspberry PI together is simpler than plugging tubes into a Power Amp.
It's just not that difficult. We had a self proclaimed Luddite here last week, that bought a Digione Player and plugged it in and had it working within minutes with Roon. The Raspberry Pi can also be Plug and Play and Allo sells these. (But, that's no fun for most of us here! :-)

Actually, I'm more of a nitwit than a luddite. :-) I like technology, I just struggle to implement it myself.
I think you both make good points. I do think this forum focuses almost entirely on the low-cost/high performance-through-DIY approach over the simpler-commercial approaches for hoi polloi like me. And at times it can feel intimidating to even suggest a costly, one-box solution amongst the computer savvy hobbyists here. For example, the Aurender products seem to be met with some scorn here, though I might have gone that route had they facilitated multi-room streaming. At the same time, were it not for the approach of this forum, and the generosity of advice, I would probably still be using an entirely Mac/iTunes based solution. I certainly wouldn't have even bothered to get my ethernet connected for my now networked system and signed up for Roon.
Ultimately, I want to have a system that doesn't require too much of a learning curve for set up and then runs without a bunch of ongoing trouble shooting. The good news is that through this forum I realize that there are a lot of options to getting there, even if I ended up taking a somewhat easier albeit more expensive path than others.

"If you are the owner of a new stereophonic system, this record will play with even more brilliant true-to-life fidelity. In short, you can purchase this record with no fear of its becoming obsolete in the future."
Brother I love your spunk, but this isn't Computer DYI. You seem to be the biggest Pi cheerleader here and realistically it's not for everyone. I really enjoy reading your posts and if I had better DYI skills a Pi might be a fun hobby however after a career with Westinghouse selling factory automation products I really don't enjoy living it at home. Please don't respond to this but if you want this site to be dominated by 3 people building Pi's we all need to rethink the entire site.

I work at Bellevue serving soup to nuts! What system should I use?
I ordered a RPi after reading about it here and on another forum and had it up and running AND communicating with another piece of software in about 10 minutes. It really is easy. I then put a Hifiberry dac "hat" on it, something I also read about, and it was running instantly. This stuff isn't hard to do at all even without any knowledge. I think the biggest price of entry is having someone explain what to do. It is cheap and it works. I spent under $400 for 2 RPis, the hifiberry, and an iFi Nano iDSD dac, plus the Audirvana software that feeds it all. It sends music to 2 rooms, but not simultaneously yet. That's still in the works by both Audirvana and Volumio.
Audirvana runs on my iMac, and Volumio runs on the RPis.
It really is easy. I started with NOTHING in the middle of July, no knowledge, not even aware of what was available. I have 24/96 streaming into my kitchen right now as I type on the iMac acting as the server.
And then it can become the Bluesound Forum. You responded in a Raspberry Pi thread, so that is why we are talking about it. Maybe there is not that much to discuss in a 'Plug and Play' Thread.... But Hey, post all you want, no one is stopping you...And I didn't have a 'Career Selling Products'.... I had a Career Building Software Products, for others to 'Sell'... And there in lies the difference!

I well remember being told to "sell what we have developed" as the customers fled to the competition.
Not to scrap with you but Pi/ LMS is not the answer for everyone.

And that was always what the last prospect wanted rather than the market.... Our CEO was a Salesman. And if you sold what you haven't developed, it was called Vaporware or Future-ware....

You are so funny. I know that and simply made a comment based on what Abe said that when spending XXX number of bucks there are other avenues.

And who the heck started this thread anyway?
Let's blame it on him!

Allo targets the big boys competition out there with the Katana.
A complete setup (DAC/PI/PS/isolator) will cost around $500.
That's a hell lot of money for a DIY setup.
And that's one of the main reasons why they didn't let that minor filter issue go. Allo is well aware that they have to deliver.
With this DAC they're leaving the low cost DIY arena. That's a risk.
There are not that many "DIY-audiophiles" around.
However. There are many great highest quality DIY-DACs out there at similar price levels. That's the Allo Katana competition.
Allo also believes that they can compete with commercial $1000-$1500 USB DACs. We'll see.
If you just look at the SparkosLabs discrete Class-A output stage alone, you might consider $250 for the DAC a pretty fair pricetag. And it also shows that they take the battle serious.
Abe on the other hand has no clue what he's talking about.
And that he sells quite well.
You guys enjoy your Bluesounds. And next month it's something else.
And then it'll be another device.
That'll also do of course. Black Box swapping can also be a very nice hobby.
Enjoy.
"You guys enjoy your Bluesounds. And next month it's something else. And then it'll be another device. "
Says the guy who's tried the Allo Piano, Kali, Boss, Katana, etc., and is still chasing audio nirvana ;-)
Enjoy your toys, we're certainly enjoying ours.

Clueless BS. ...as usual.
I get the boards for testing and integration work free of charge.
And not only Allo stuff.
You better cut the crap.
"I get the boards for testing and integration work free of charge."No wonder you love their stuff so much! If I got free crap I might be hyping it up too so I can get more.
And if I had personal skin in the game (testing and integration work) I might be overly sensitive too if someone called my baby ugly and didn't want to kiss it.
Nice hobby gig though. Enjoy.

That's about the cost of the PS for my Pi/Allo DigiOne (UpTone LPS-1 UltraCap). =:-0
OK, it also powers my uRendu but right now the Pi/Allo DigiOne works better with WiFi than the uRendu and the bedroom has no ethernet.
