If anyone else actually has experience with this setup, still love to hear from you.

The advice that you have so far concerns how to control the Oppo 105 remotely. However your question refers to streaming to the machine via USB from a Mac.
The link is to the user manual. Go to pages 43-45. The machine allows certain online resources such as Netflix to be accessed directly. The USB inputs need to be connected to a network device that has DNLA functionality. That is probably why it worked with a Windows computer but not with your Mac. You could try one of the DNLA for Mac applications.
Yes! DLNP and UPnP are the acronyms I remember now. I think I'm armed with the general information I need--thanks all.
Again, if anyone has suggestions for certain specific software packages, I'd appreciate your experience!
I think Roon will work with your 105, and it will certainly work with your MacBook. IIRC, you can set up a trial period. You can run Roon core on your MacBook and send files via USB to the 105 for playing. I had a spare Mac Mini that now runs Roon core 24/7 and connects via ethernet to an Ayre QX-5 Twenty digital hub. I also run Roon bridge on an iMac that sends files via USB to an Ayre DX-5 DSD, a high-end equivalent of the 105 -- running that setup as I write this.
