Just a guess that if you used this ipad away from home, it is probably not connected to your network at home anymore. Check your settings and make sure you are connected to the same network Roon is on. And the ipad Wifi is ON.Cut-Throat

Thanks, Cut-Throat, that was the problem. As soon as I reset WiFi, the Roon remote app came up and again controls Roon core. Nice to have it back.
Roon core sends files via ethernet to an Ayre QX-5 Twenty, KX-5 Twenty, VX-5 Twenty combination that drives a pair of KEF LS50s supplemented by a pair of Velodyne HGS-10s low-passed at 50 Hz by an SMS-1 that also provides acoustic room correction. The sound quality is excellent, perhaps surprising so.

My latest experience using my iPad to control Roon core made me realize how little understanding I have of this technology. Why was I able to access my email, but not link to Roon core? In a previous post, Abe had instructed me how to avoid having the display timeout while using Roon, but I had forgotten how to do that and the display on the iPad would timeout. After I reset WiFi, the remote app not only linked to core, but the display persevered during the entire Roon session.

Your ipad may have been connected to another network than your home. For example if you have a Comcast account you can connect to other people's Comcast routers. So if you had a neighbor that had a Comcast router, you would connect automatically to them. What you can do to prevent this in the future is change your settings to auto connect to your home network.
Your e-mail is available on ALL networks with internet. Roon is only available to your own Home local Network.

When I reset my WiFi, I found in addition to my WiFi several variants with 4 or 5 letter extensions, and it was one of these that the iPad was using. I had to go to the iMac to look up my password for the basic WiFi that linked to Roon.

It seems you were hooked to another network other than the one Roon was on.... Not sure I completely follow you about 'the other variants'... but we'll leave it that.
