Can someone tell me if the USB ports on my Mac Mini (late 2012) are numbered from left to right or right to left? I've used the system information report but don't see what I'm looking for.

Follow Ups:
I call the port next to the Thunderbolt #4, and the one at the outside--nearest the SD card slot--#1, then on a 2012 Mac mini port numbers 1 and 3 sound markedly better than #2 and #4. (And this is with no other devices attached to the USB ports.
Try it and you'll see (hear).

Hi SuperDad,
It was you whom I was trying to remember when I began to think about the optimum USB port. I stumbled on to Computer Audiophile months ago and read yours and others posts about optimizing OS X using the Computer Audio Design Optimization Script. It works great! And of course you are correct about the Mac Mini ports 1 and 3. I have unknowingly been using port 3 for sometime now after trial and error listening. Thanks much for the verification.

I can't tell you how they're numbered but if you're asking because you want to know if your DAC will be on a dedicated bus, you really can't tell by the physical port. It is my understanding that the USB enumeration process is dynamic so which controller/bus/hub you're connected to will vary depending on what else might be connected to the other ports.I simply use the system information report and drill down to USB under the Hardware heading to view the USB device tree to ensure that my DAC is on a dedicated hub chip. If it's not, I'll swap to another port or possibly even reboot to see where it ends up. Works fine.
In this example my Oppo DAC is on it's very own dedicated Hi-Speed bus while other devices are elsewhere. This is what you want... a dedicated bus/hub for your DAC. The Inateck device is on a USB 3.0 SuperSpeed bus which is how it should be. The Inateck is a case that houses my SSD and supports USB 3.0 SuperSpeed. The IR receiver and bluetooth controller are on a separate bus.

Hi Abe, and thank you for your informative response. I invested the time and experimented with all four USB ports. It was worth the effort and time well spent. I have been rewarded with cleaner and clearer sound.
Does it make an audible difference?
Hi HiFiOd. My ears tell me it makes a audible difference.
