No not any different from anyone else on the web...
I think you are being picky as you often do. I do not see any alarming marketing strategy. I just see people being honest and creating a product for a needed market.
Improving USB quality is important IMO. All the people out there with MACs, notebooks or systems without a slot are potential customers. People with better USB ports have also reported improvements.
I finally placed an order, was not in a rush because I was already using the PPA. From what has been posted I think there can be some improvement, I will see.
I also own a bunch of little systems to try it on. One is a ECS LIVA which has a bay trail and runs on only 5V. This type of system has so little going on to generate noise. Might be good as a JPlay audio PC, that is the PC that drives the DAC, or as an HQPlayer NAA.
Follow Ups:
This was what I wanted from the 'thousand' posts about Regen in CA, most of which has not been about comparative SQ.
The USB problem is well known and had been denied by leading usb dac designers who used to post here. Only audioengr and I had repeatedly talked about usb signal integrity and power supply quality. Now suddenly this has become 'new technology' but I do give credit to John Swenson for doing something about it, although not to those who insist that it can be safe to power with 20V and pass over 0.8 W thru the device.
On my Zotac, I am able to connect the dac thru only one used usb port, with an iUSB Power and I am surprised by how much better the setup sounds compared to some other 'optimised' PCs.
The LIVA didn't get very good reviews. Why did you go for it and ditched the Zotac?
I have finally decided to spend on a 20V Paul Hynes 2.2 A regulator which will be adjustable from within from 10V. This will allow me to put to the test the merits or otherwise of 'fast' and 'stiff' regulators on the SQ of some PCs (the lab supplies often used are really not up to scratch, nor are the LT108x based ones.
I picked up the Liva cheap, it is not a main system. I do not use the Zotac as a music server either, just a small secondary NAS.
Whatever is set in BIOS, cpu speed is set by Power Plan min and max!
So this is equivalent to an undervolting PC that can be set with min cpu% = max cpu% if desired. In my setup cpu% min is set to 60% and it sounds better than 100%!
Curious thing is, the current draw ratio does not seem to be 0.6 but 0.75.
