Not sure exactly what 'optimizing' really means, TBH.
I would consider a Mac Mini with an external PS and all other I/O, etc. shut down as somewhat 'optimized', I guess.
Till feel, at least for me, that the Wyred4Sound modded SONOS Connect may end up being my 'streamer'.
Perfect world would be if someone managed a 'software hack' on the SONOS system, either that or SONOS open-sourced the system and it became the new 'Squeezbox'.
did you notice much change in the sound of your modded Connect in the first 50 hours?
Still trying to work through some drop-out/lock-up issues when streaming FLAC over the internet with the SONOS system. Both wireless and when connected to Ethernet. Not a consistent problem and not even regular enough to allow much in the way of troubleshooting.
IF I can get past that then perhaps it makes sense to send it off for a $550 upgrade PLUS invest in a SPDIF DAC ($1000+) commensurate with the quality of the upgraded Connect and the quality of Lossless FLAC over the internet.
My goal here is to find out exactly how good Lossless FLAC streamed over the internet can be. There is likely a sweet-spot here somewhere and at some price point as well as a SQ ceiling to Lossless FLAC streaming and I have no clue where it is.
Sadly, these is little or no real documentation that I can find on the SONOS system.
Issues like Buffer/Cache of incoming data? Who knows? Gapless playback? How is this managed? I can now play four different streaming services through SONOS, three Lossless FLAC, the other Spotify which is 320kbps Ogg Vorbis.
Still have not been able to chat with anyone at Wyerd4Sound that is in the least bit technical. Answers to my questions are just quotes read off company the web page from the people I've been able to reach. No one seems to even know why they claim that wireless connections are degraded by the mod. Or even if they really are.
know what most products mentioned are!
