You appear to be!
Follow Ups:
He isn't, but your nihilistic "you're either with us, or against us" advice/stance/approach on having an absolutely quiet computer doesn't add much to helping the original poster....
Beyond that "advice" that you have given, I do not see much that you provided with helping the poster.
Jeff's advice/suggestions seemed to be pretty solid.....
You agreed with someone - fmak disagreed with him.You think Jeff's advice was "solid" - fmak doesn't think so. From my perspective, he is correct and you're wrong.
As I said, Jeff's advice, if followed, leads one to miss out on the most cost-effective, most likely free, opportunity to significantly improve the sound of his system.
Mind you, I'm not surprised there's someone else in this thread who agrees with whatever is posted, as long as it's against "tweaking" they despise so much. These shall remain clueless - and best ignored.

Hahaha!! you have no clue to whom you're talking to... I have been tweaking in electronics for many years and had had the opportunities to get paid to tweak.../
No, your "advice" wasn't advice, more like a papal edict.... Save your trite replies for someone who would be effected by them.
Doesn't look like it. Hint: "someone else in this thread" clearly doesn't mean YOU - it means third party.Anyway, feel free to handicap your system by not paying attention to the source - you're certainly not alone in doing so, as this very thread shows.
I will continue to expose your, and others like you, erroneous ways as I see fit.

Agree. While JeffH gave good specific advise in addressing the OP's question, a couple others here are quick to criticize but offer no help at all. If you monitor this forum enough, you'll see this all the time.

Yes, Abe..... I have noticed that some folks on here take a " my way or the highway" approach to this hobby, which is very unfortunate...
"but offer no help at all."
The help is rather clear. The broad generalization that the DAC is most important and and the transport makes little difference is the point of contention.
Sorry but IMO bad advice. I have been so impressed with the improvement in my system with Server 2012 AudioPhil's optimizer and JPlay. It has been a revelation. The other day for fun I put my MAC mini running A+ back in the system for comparison, it was not even close.
The point is everyone's opinions are just that. People should to the best of their ability try and listen and not accept proclamations. Even from the "experts"...
Sounds rather nice even with Fidelizer 3. Midrange is such that the other 32 bit OSs cannot match.
Is it 64 bit or is it something else.
"I never stated that nothing else makes a difference, but for most folks putting in a decent DAC/converter is the FIRST step to good sound."
Quoting JeffH above, I have to agree with him. Would the FIRST step be to put in a highly tweaked SOURCE computer system and a crap bargain-basement DAC?
Before your post from the "source is most important camp", what specific advise have they given to the OP? None. Just criticism of Jeff's recommendation. So typical, and that was my point.
What player? What OS? What OS tweaks? What CPU? What speed? How much memory? What disk, HDD/SSD? What power supply? What interface? What cable? What DAC? Did these supporters of the SOURCE computer is most important camp offer up any specific advise to the OP? I haven't seen it.

"Honestly, the DAC/converter makes or breaks the system."
Since you like quoting, you forgot this one. Honestly... ?
"Would the FIRST step be to put in a highly tweaked SOURCE computer system and a crap bargain-basement DAC?"
That would be stupid now, wouldn't it. Are you accusing anyone here of being stupid?
"Before your post from the "source is most important camp",""
I never went to camp. Did you?
"What player? ................. I haven't seen it."
You just bring up lots of ancillary stuff to blur the issues. But...
The advice is rather simple IMO... Keep an open mind, and try and listen before absolute proclamations.
There are no blurred issues except the fact that a couple of these guys are quick to criticize but offer no specific solutions. I stand by Jeff's comments.

If the time wasted naysaying was applied properly, they could have a nice, optimized, resolving source in their systems...
Why does someone else always post in reply in this forum?
