I agree that his measurements are indeed measurements...
And I believe that measurements are good and can contribute greatly to the advancement and happiness of mankind.
Do those two sets intersect? Could. What determines it is correlation: does the measured data set significantly align with listener's experiences? If it does then you have a tool which may help you to understand and control the underlying factors, if not then you just have another observation but of a different sort than merely listening.
I haven't followed this closely but I don't recall seeing any effort to achieve correlation and I think that's the rub that folks here are trying to point out. Lovingly of course...

Yup, you got it in one! It's a hoary old line and I have no idea from whence it came, but it's apt for many situations.
The notion of course is that a number means nothing by itself and yet it's very existence may lend an air of accuracy, understanding and reliability which is unwarranted. This is a pitfall for beginning technicians and engineers and a tool for experienced shysters and politicians.
