I think when this subject last came up, most of the replies indicated that the particular posters were still OK with jazz and classical combined, as it is now. But I'm now thinking that if I were a jazzer, I'd think that the classical posts have become too numerous, and I might want more of my own "space"?
Follow Ups:
i don't especially enjoy riffling through the mostly classical content of the music ward. i can't see how it would detract from it by separating jazz out.
Classical Hall or some other descriptive could give some elevation that classical fans would appreciate.

I could be wrong. I know from reading posts on other forums that some inmates who are at least somewhat into jazz don't like this forum. You specialists in the 4,379 recordings of each Beethoven sonata are not universally appreciated on AA :-)Maybe a forum unpolluted by pics of Yuja and just dedicated to jazz might attract enough raps to justify its existence (of course I'll still be hangin' here to check those pics out). I think it'd be worth a try. If AA can have Prop Heads why can't we have a jazz joint?

Yeah, Serena Williams. I rest my case for a jazz forum!

Hear, hear!
will just create more work for Rod + co.
It's just music. Keep it in the same room.
I don't know what you mean by *jazzer* but I listen to a lot of jazz, too.
I really haven't seen many involved discussions regarding jazz on this board and don't think it'll promote more posts because it's got a separate room.
For one thing I won't visit there.
Do you visit the hip hop forum?
I would if there was a Disco and funk forum. :D
I thought maybe they would cover some electronica stuff I was into but alas, not really.
But as a genre, maybe classical music could be the only type of music that actually we can have a discussion regarding interpretation variations.
I guess we could have a discussion regarding who's cover is the best on the Beatles' Yesterday but I'd reckon it'll get pretty stale.

What's the definition of a Triad?
It's a chord with the 6th left out.
All kinds of groovy, inside, secret stuff.
Well, until now...
I just haven't noticed except someone alerting some new artists or something or posting video. ( but probably I wasn't paying attention )
I would love to read up on Blue Note ( the old proper one! ) ,Riverside or Prestige or somesuch, artists or artistry of those from the gone era.
I would like to see someone start a thread on Hank Mobley!

Do a search on Amazon books for all 3 labels you mentioned. You'll finds a wealth of material, especially on Blue Note. And also a search for books on jazz records.
See above re Hank Mobley...by request
Do you own the album Hank by Hank Mobley? I was really into Hank Mobley but sort of moved on....if you like Hank, you should check out Tubby Hayes....a contemporary of Hank but I like him better.

I am all in on a jazz forum. The current forum is basically a classic music forum.
I for one can't fathom why there isn't a jazz forum and can't think of any downside. A hip hop forum and no jazz forum. The ultimate insult. There are a number of other forums here that get very little action so even if it wasn't popular what would be the big deal?? T456

"A hip hop forum and no jazz forum. The ultimate insult."
Every Sunday when I read my copy of The New York Times (You know, the newspaper that's always "failing."), I scratch my head in wonderment at the amount of coverage given to hip hop, while they no longer have a dedicated jazz writer and the music gets minimal coverage. It may be an elitist attitude on my part, but I find it hard to believe that the average Times reader is an avid hip hop fan...but then there are lots of things that have happened in the past couple of years that mystify me.
We tried the inverse of that about a dozen years ago with Classical Court. For whatever reason, that forum never took, and now only exists buried in the archives.
As an avid fan of both jazz and classical, I for one like the one-stop-shopping of the current arrangement.
Happy listening,
Jim
