Takes longer to read the review than listen to the music...
Descriptions of Jazz Solos gets ridiculous at times.
OTOH, I rarely write actual reviews because I don't know how to describe what I hear and how I feel about it.
Usually just give brief impressions.
"It's got a good beat and I can dance to it " level of writing for me!

The great performance-critics of my experience have been Berlioz, G. B. Shaw, and B. H. Haggin, but I can't say quite what they do (as distinct from the reactions they produce in me).

. . . they used to enforce a minimum word count, i.e., they would not accept your review unless it contained at least 1,000 words. As you say, sometimes "short and sweet" is the bestest approach to take. ;-)
