I always loved the Grumiaux, especially, versus the current players. Then I got the Milstein and changed my mind.
I done side by side comparisons a couple of times and always choice Milstein.
Follow Ups:
He ironically is afforded a better sense of hall than Grumiaux, and Szeryng gets my toe tapping in a way that Grumiaux does not, even though Szeryng is a bit slower overall.
I had a DGG Italy box set of the Milstein but sold it. Will definitely give it another listen when I stumble across a set again. Milstein happens to be Norman Lebrecht's favorite as well.
His colorful way with music history OTOH....
