The reader write-in contests were great, and just because an entry did not get a prize does not mean it was not meaningful. Indeed, when I recommended 12 CDs of works entered in the Fantasy Symphony Competition, some of those works came from non-winning entries.
I felt that my life was out of balance and that I had to make some changes. I made that decision last year, in fact. I delayed my departure so I could cover a product that Sam Tellig had started the review process on but then sent back, and I wanted to leave on the highest note possible, and convincing Bob Ludwig to invest his time in a rather lengthy and content-rich interview process took a little time... .
After I decompress a bit I will start a blog, www.thetannhausergate.com
I'd love to land the ideal teaching job, but if that doesn't happen I will pursue other options.
And I will still make contributions here, but, I also expect that when I recommend recordings old or new, that will happen first at The Tannhauser Gate.

I always liked that you had insights that were ... "counter" but were always well written, didactic, and they seemed to come from a place of knowledge instead of a place of "opinion only" (many reviewers seemed to me to have no broad knowledge about what they were opining about).... You were the one who reminded me of Shahinian .. I was listening to Parsifal thru them....
so now I am gonna make a double prickly pear margarita and here is to you Mr Marks. ( I still think you should have changed your name to Caitlin !)
at Steophile. I have enjoyed your columns over the years. It is great to know you will still have an outlet to share your knowledge and experience that we can continue to enjoy. Wishing you much success in finding that teaching position.
