I recently posted with lukewarm praise for the Orchestra of Teatro alla Scala & Choir of the Accademia del Teatro alla Scala's interpretation. Well I've reappraised my opinion after friends came around and we viewed it together.
The only singer lacking a bit of forcefulness was Günther Groissböck in the role of Sarastro. The rest of the cast sung impressively and even Günther was acceptable. The use of projection to display different scenes was very effective. So, thoroughly recommended.
We had a discussion on which was Mozart's last opera. Some of us incorrectly claimed The Magic Flute was his last but not so, "La clermenza di Tito was. Now I'm unfamiliar with it so looked at the Opera national de Paris BD. I found Act 1 somewhat slow with a plot line rather implausible as is ofter so in operas, but accepting that, Act 2 livened up with some glorious singing. Overall a very good production, also recommended - see the link below.

For some reason however, I've accompanied a fair number of coloratura mezzos in the aria, "Parto, parto, ma tu ben mio" (the one with the big clarinet obbligato), from this opera.
What do you think of the production overall on the disc that you showed, aside from the projections? I certainly don't mind projections, but I have to be careful these days to avoid the Scylla and Charybdis of Eurotrash productions and HIP performances. :-)
The projections on Magic Flute worked well.
The staging of Tito was stark but the singing was so good one forgot that.Neither production is Eurotrash.
I'm now looking at the latest "Carmen" BD (Marc Piollet - Gran Teatre del Liceu) which is a bit Eurotrash + the lead singer in the role, Beatrice Uria-Monzon, although effectively vampish and in good voice, does look a bit old to be convincing. Apologies if that sounds harsh (which it is) but there are so many voluptuous singers around these days we have been spoiled for choice, particularly in video. I'm also unimpressed with Erwin Schrott as Escamillo in his first scene. I'll see how he develops.

It's definitely a less Mozart opera. There's lots of evidence of it being rushed, such as the fact that Mozart farmed out recitatives to pupils. I read somewhere that the opera has something staggering as half as many notes as his other operas (so he wrote the bare minimum).
