When I was growing up, I was thaught that classical EMI's were the greatest label. The finest high fidelity recordings. Snagging an EMI in the USA was a triumph.
So deeply entrenched is the idea, that to this day, vinyl EMI's to me still magic, highly coveted.

So hard to get here, that when I visited Europe, I filled a suitcase with them. I have vivid memories of lugging it around Europe. Damn, was it heavy.
Buying used LPs has helped me realize just how bad so many Angel releases were compared to European EMI issues. And I'm glad to have a number of EMI CD reissues; even the worst of them nearly always sound miles better than the original Angel pressings.
Not only did Angel's surfaces go to hell at some point, but what they did to EMI's master tapes for stateside release was borderline criminal. Especially since, in so many cases, EMI's engineers had gone to such lenghts to capture the highest fidelity sound.
