the brass in this orchestra (first horn Alan Civil and first trumpet Philip Jones) were every bit as good as Chicago's, and Klemp's interpretation, albeit with somewhat unconventional tempos, is routinely cited as one of the all-time greats.

Follow Ups:
Klemperer/Philharmonia and Walter/CSO have been the stereo recommendations in this work for 50 years now. I have both and enjoy each one.
However, I recently located a Urania CD with a Walter/NBC performance of the 4th from 1940 which promises great riches and rewards, and will report on it at a later date.
EMI issued a live recording of the Bruckner 4 with the Bavarian RSO in good stereo sound that Klemperer and Bruckner fans should hear.
